Experimental Chai

Here's my little attempt at making some masala chai, keep in mind that the best chai is one tweaked to your own preferences in spices and that I am by no means any expert on the matter, I just figure I'd share my experiments trying to make a similar drink :).

Step 1:

Drop in a low-heat pan
- cardamom pods (I went a bit nuts with them)
- cloves
- ginger
- cinamon sticks
- cumin (a bit strange, but it adds a fun flavour ;D )
And heat the spices a little bit, until you get a nice smell, just a few minutes.

Step 2:

Take the spices out and crush them with a mortar and pestle. I usually also add some black peppercorns in the mix at that point.
Meanwhile, start boiling some water in your pot.

Step 3:

Add in your ingredients and lower the heat to a simmer. Keep going for 20-30 minutes, stirring once in a while. You can do it longer, just as long as you have a nice brownish water that has sucked the flavour of your spices.

Step 4:

Toss in one or two bags of black tea, and a bit of milk and sugar to your liking. You might want to add some extra ingredients to alter the flavour at that point, such as nutmeg. Boil a bit more and stir, for maybe 5-10 minutes.

Just strain and serve!

Feel free to post your variations or ideas to improve this experimental recipe ^_^

I don't really have anything to add...except that I have that pot steeper/strainer thing in green. XD Quite handy. :)
